Period-set mystery/horror that showcases Korean femme talent both in front of and behind the camera. "Goong-nyuh," financed and distributed by Cinema Service, is set during Korea's Joseon Dynasty era and focuses on the mysterious death of a court lady.
Produced by Achim Pictures -- which rose to prominence with the success of "King and the Clown" in early 2006 -- pic marks the directorial debut of Kim Mi-jeong, who has worked in recent years as an a.d. to "King" helmer Lee Jun-ik. Lee's company Cineworld will also co-produce.
Pic's mostly female cast includes film/TV drama star Park Jin-hee ("Love in Magic"), Yun Se-ah, Seo Young-hee and Im Jung-eun. Considering Achim Pictures CEO Jeong Seung-hye, the director and the line producer, the film will be one of South Korea's most femme-centric productions in recent years.
